Project Challenges:

1.       Fordsburg substation is a 275/88Kv 1 GigaVA Substation. One of City Powers Main intakes for the City Of Johannesburg from Eskom

2.       In order to effectively remove the outdated Jericho Scheme innovative design techniques both on the Primary and Secondary side had to be implemented by Conco.

3.       Dismantle existing control and Protection Scheme under live Conditions A total 0f 9 tons of Control Cables was extracted.

4.       A  Requirement from the client was that The substation had to run at three quarters capacity (750 MVA) due to loading constraints during the entire project. Conco managed to achieve this through intricate project planning, innovative Design techniques and World Class Site crews

5.       The project was an engineering feat due to the fact that the new 275Kv  equipment was installed under live conditions on a third floor of a building. In addition the quantity of new equipment installed was greater than that previously installed.  This proved a great design success as although more equipment was installed the building size was not increased.
